Flight & Jr. Flight Dance Team
Audition Info:
Date: Saturday, August 23rd, 2025
Time: 10 AM
Location: C.R.O.W. Center for the Performing Arts - 3120 Hwy 101 in Florence.
Auditions are open to all youth. Previous dance experience is required.
Jr. Flight age range: 8 - 11 years old
Flight age range: 12+ with dance experience.

Flight Dance Team Practices will be Thursday afternoons, from 4:15-6:15.

Jr. Flight Dance Team Practice times will be Wednesdays from 4:45-6:15, with a mandatory Ballet technique class also on Wednesdays from 3:45-4:40 (counts as one of the 2 required classes).
Please note, dancers who are younger or older than the above age ranges may be invited to join either team, depending on where they fit best.
Participants should bring ballet, half-sole shoes, and/or jazz shoes, and water in a container with a tightly fitting lid.
A dance combination will be taught at the audition, and team members will be selected based on:

Please wear dance attire to the audition. No baggy clothing, please. Please pull your hair back tightly.
The Flight Dance Team and Jr. Flight Dance Team is required to perform in the Holly Jolly Follies (Dec. 5-7,2025), the C.R.O.W. Spring Youth Musical (April 17-26,2026), and the Spring Dance Showcase (May 22 & 23, 2026).
The 2025-2026 teams will be participating in dance competitions or other similar performance/educational opportunities (dates TBA - likely Feb/March) which will require travel and lodging costs at parent's expense. Disneyland Parade Trip will be during Spring Break (more info provided if accepted to team). Fundraisers will be a part of this exciting new component!
The Teams are sometimes invited to optional field trips at the Hult Center and/or other locations at parent's expense. Other community service and/or performance events may be required.
Please read the following information carefully:
EXPECTATIONS:

Dancers must have some previous dance experience or training (or equivalent).

Returning dancers must audition each year to remain on the team.
-
Dancers must sign a contract and commit to being on the team for the entire season.

Dancers agree to put the team first above all other commitments.
-
Dancers may not miss more than 6 practices in a year.
-
If a dancer is tardy or leaves early (more than 15 minutes) without permission, it will count as an absence. Dancers may not be frequently late.

Dancers must have any planned vacations approved in advance to ensure that they do not conflict with a performance or competition.

All Flight/ Jr. Flight performances and events are mandatory.
-
Travel, admission, tuition, costuming, or lodging, or other fees incurred are at the parent's expense. We always do our very best to help make these events accessible for those with financial need. Fundraisers may be required.

Parent chaperones will be required for certain events TBA.
PARTICIPATION COST:
-
Annual Cost to participate in Flight or Jr. Flight is $425.
-
Tuition may be paid in 2 installments (with approval) over the first few months.
-
First payment is due no later than the first day of practice (early September).
-
Limited half or full scholarships may be available for those with financial need (application required).
REQUIREMENTS:
-
Dancers are required to enroll and participate in two other dance classes at C.R.O.W. (and maintain participation in the classes throughout the year – Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring sessions – whenever classes are available).

One of the additional classes must be focused on dance technique (i.e.- Ballet or similar).
-
Gymnastics classes at an outside location may be considered as one of the required two classes on a case by case basis.

Director reserves the right to require a dancer to take a specific style/genre of class.

Team Jacket is required at an additional cost (to paid for by participant). A new jacket will be required for 2025-2026.

Families are responsible for purchasing all costumes for your dancer. Costume costs will be kept as low as possible.

Dancers must provide their own dance shoes. Dancers will receive a list of styles/colors needed once they are accepted onto the team.

Dancers must provide their own undergarments, tights, and leotards for all practices, rehearsals, and/or performances.
-
All shoes and garments must be kept in "performance shape."
-
Dancers must wear all black (or Flight/Jr. Flight Team logo) dancewear to all practices.
-
Rehearsal attire must be meant for dancing. (No jeans, street clothes, etc.)
-
Dancers with long hair must always pull hair back into a ponytail or bun for all practices.
CHARACTER/PROFESSIONALISM:
-
Dancers are ambassadors/role models for other C.R.O.W. participants and must maintain professionalism at all times, both inside and outside of the studio.

Mentorship opportunities are available to dancers who exemplify qualities such as integrity, dedication, hard work, teamwork, and growth mindset.

Dancers who are unprepared for practices (i.e.- Don't bring their proper shoes, don't pull hair back, or don't wear all black dance clothing) may be removed from the team with no refund, at discretion of the Director.

Dancers who exhibit any behavior issues, bully others, or struggle to get along with other dancers in any capacity may be removed from the team at any time, with no refund, at the discretion of the Director.

Dancers must always demonstrate respect for teachers and fellow team members.

GENERAL SCHEDULING INFO:

There will be no practices during Tech Week for C.R.O.W.'s Spring Musical (April), nor during the month of December (following the Holly Jolly Follies).

Director may cancel an occasional occasional practice as needed.

The general schedule is early Sept. through mid-May.
-
Dancers are requested to maintain ongoing dance training either with C.R.O.W. or at a approved summer intensive program during June/July/August.

Schedule and Dancer's Handbook will be provided upon acceptance onto the team.
APPRENTICES:

Some dancers may be invited to become "apprentices" on either team. This is an opportunity to learn, grow, and be involved at the dancer's current level.

Performance choreography for apprentices may be reduced or adjusted to suit their skills.

Apprentices are provided an opportunity to prove that they can work hard, learn from the more advanced dancers, and exhibit a strong desire to be promoted the following year. In other words, we see potential in YOU!

By auditioning, you are stating that you have read, understand, and agree to all of the rules of participation. A contract will be provided if you are accepted onto the team
